eoc_ultimate_review_powerpoint-updated.output.pdfWelcome to Mrs. McClellan’s (f/k/a Ms. Vining) 7th Grade Civics Course at Braden River Middle School. I am very excited to be teaching your child how to become a productive and responsible citizen. I would love to have guest speakers come in and talk to the students about civic rights and responsibilities. If you or anyone you know would like to speak on a specific topic, please contact me.
About me: I am a graduate of Bayshore High School here in Bradenton and an honors graduate of Florida State University (Go Noles!). I am also a Nationally Board Certified Social Studies Teacher as well as an AVID Teacher. I believe in establishing meaningful relationships with my students through open discussions and humor. I also believe in open and direct communication between teachers and parents. There are several ways to communicate with me. My web site can be viewed by going to: mcclellan-civics.weebly.com. From that site you can see what we are doing in class and also download the current event form (due every Friday - unless otherwise indicated). You can also contact me via e-mail at: [email protected] or use the BRMS website and follow the prompts. Additionally, you can send a note in your child’s agenda (it is your child’s responsibility to show it to me). You may call me directly at 751-7080, Ext. 2101 and leave a message and I will call you at my earliest possible convenience.
Supplies: Your child should have a two inch, 3-ring binder (any color) with loose-leaf, wide-ruled notebook paper; 5 insertable, tabbed dividers; 5 clear sheet protectors, and pens/pencils (blue/black). Additionally, I would appreciate any donations of copy paper, permanent markers, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, Pens/pencils (blue/black), Color pencils, Crayons, Markers, or Highlighters.
Grading: Classwork/Projects – 35%; Assessments – 20%; Vocabulary 15%; Current Events – 20%; Daily Bellwork - 10%. The only homework for my class is a weekly current event assignment due every Friday. The grading scale is A=90-100; B=80-89; C=70-79; D=60-69; F=0-59.
Various methods of instruction will be implemented this year. The workbook will be supplemented with group activities, note-taking exercises, reading, videos, presentations, discussions, current events, lectures, group and individual projects, as well as guest speakers. No projects will be completed at home – we do everything in class.
Again, I am pleased to welcome your child to my class. I am dedicated to making certain that your child has every opportunity to succeed. I realize how important your child is to you and I appreciate your confidence and support!
